This has been such a busy year for our family! At the beginning of the year, Derek started looking for a new job because the amount of hours he was working had become ridiculous. Not only did we barely see him, but when we did, he was exhausted! And cranky ( sorry, babe, but it's true) so in April we find a new place to live and said goodbye to the small town, campground life. We moved right into the heart of the courthouse in our old town, great neighborhood, close to our family, lots of kids, safe, friendly.
Logan began speech therapy, at much insistence from me because he was always a little behind and I felt it was getting worse. Ultimately, he did end up with a delay, he was around 18 month level and he was two so we started the therapy once a week. So, speech therapy mostly means sitting in a room playing, while the therapist makes sounds and repeats words for a half an hour. Same thing I've been doing at home! Yes, I know, she has a degree and it's proven that the therapy is effective, just wasn't effective for Logan. He repeated two words the entire four months in therapy but was just coming out with new words on his own so he was back on track and we ended therapy.
And so began the adventures in babysitting for me this summer! We got to keep Addison and William three days a week and had a blast! Its been great for me to get so much time with them but I love how close Logan and Will have become! Besties! We've kept busy playing in the pool, taking walks down to the pet cemetery to hunt zombie cats, walks to the library and trips to Busch gardens! This summer Logan rode the log flume for the first time! His first big guy ride!!
Unfortunately, our streak of 14 months with no hospital stays ended when Logan woke up in the early morning hours running a high fever and vomiting. We were scared to death and rushed right to the children's hospital! Logan was admitted pretty quickly by GI because his white blood cell counts were extremely, critically low and his liver enzymes spiked up. It turned out that he had caught parainfluenza III, after two days of monitoring, we got to break through and let him finish recovering at home. Hospital stays are getting worse as he gets older, he's more aware and scared of what's happening to him. Even though we knew it would get harder, it didn't prepare us to see him so terrified and asking us to stop it. I'd give anything to stop it. Sometimes, its hard not to ask why this had to happen to him. This visit also brought a new issue, well, really an old issue, the problem with how quickly Logan's white blood cells have been dropping so we were sent back to hematology. They diagnosed him with chronic benign neutropenia, which could either go away as he gets older or get worse and cause his bodys normal bacteria to start causing infections so we are on high alert! Hopefully this just goes away.
The summer went too quick, and with Fall, came the start of high school for Devin and preschool for Will and Logan! Time is a funny thing, it fills me up with such pride and sadness at the same time. Logan LOVES learning new things, he's working hard on shapes and numbers! His vocabulary is exploding and I'm so glad! Finally, I get to hear that sweet voice say "mommy" and last night when I said "I love you" he said " I do! Yeah, I do!" That's good enough for me!!
