December 1st is National Biliary Atresia Awareness Day. We ask our family and friends to join in and celebrate the lives of our fighters. Please post a picture of yourself wearing your Super Logan shirt, a picture you love of Logan, a quote or saying that makes you think of him or anything at all that you like, and share this to your social media to help us raise awareness. We will never find a cure without awareness and funding for research. Liver disease is often thought of as a "self inflicted" disease but that is not the case for so many, obviously pediatric liver disease is not a result of a poor lifestyle. We need to help our community as a whole, understand what liver disease REALLY is and how it effects life daily for fighters. The first liver transplant was performed in 1963, today there are over 100 transplant centers in the US that perform over 500 liver transplants in children every year. Biliary Atresia is the leading cause of these transplants. Thousands of lives depend on receiving organs and tissues for transplant, but there is a severe and chronic shortage of donor organs. Every year, more than 1,500 people die waiting for a donated liver to become available. Currently, about 17,000 adults and children have been medically approved for liver transplants and are waiting for donated livers to become available. The waiting list grows every year.
